Holiday activities and ideas for self-catering guests at The Old Stables
There are well-marked woodland trails right from the front door of the Old Stables and in the surrounding area. These are suitable for walking and mountain biking. Nearby are a number of hill lochs suitable for trout fishing. The historic Corrimony Chambered Cairn is among several walks direct from the stable door.
Loch Ness is 10 miles. The Official Loch Ness Monster Exhibition offers eyewitness accounts of sightings, as well as details of research projects carried out over the years. Cruises on the loch can also be booked, and fishing expeditions (with local ghillie) are also easily arranged, with well-run pony trekking found at the Highland Riding Centre nearby.
A few miles to the south, ruined Castle Urquhart once served in an important role during the Wars of Independence, and floodlit at night, it can only assume a hint of its former splendour.
West of Corrimony is Strathglass which includes Glens Affric, Cannich and Strathfarrar where there are a walks of all grades to suit hill walkers and casual walkers, trout or salmon fishing, golf course and bike hire.
Inverness (25 miles) offers plenty of good shops, restaurants, cultural and leisure amenities. Fort William, Skye, Aviemore and Wick are all within a day's drive.
